Thank you very much for attending the ISRFG2018 !
The 16th International Symposium on Rice Functional Genomics Symposium was held at the Tokyo University of Agriculture in Setagaya, Tokyo from September 5 to 7, 2018. The symposium gathered 314 attendees, including 192 participants from 16 countries other than Japan. A total of 82 oral presentations and 134 poster presentations on cutting-edge research in rice genomics were presented by researchers from around the world during the 3-day meeting.
It is particularly impressive that this symposium attracted a number of next- generation rice researchers with the participation of 95 students who presented high quality research results and actively interacted with world-renowned rice researchers.
In the past 16 years, rice research has made great strides and outputs that strategically connect basic biology and applied science are gradually emerging. Meanwhile, pressing global issues such as climate change and population growth have raised the possibility that food shortage will become more serious in the very near future. Although there is no straightforward solution to these problems, basic science can provide innovative approaches for tackling these real world problems. We hope that our efforts in rice genomics will contribute in finding a common ground to address the challenges ahead.
Last but not the least, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the international scientific committee, local organizing committee, co-organizing organizations, sponsors, the symposium staff, and everyone who participated and helped to make this symposium a great success.
Looking forward to seeing you all at ISRFG2019 in Taiwan!
